Happy New Year 2022!

Thoughts are whirling and swirling like the wind these days. So much has transpired, silence settles over me when trying to think about the past two years.

I’m grateful to be alive and well and I also miss some of the old ways of being in the world. The pause we have all been enduring is very different from what we’ve ever known.

After being vaccinated I have been able to go back into the schools and to be with children and adults making ceramics. Everyone has been changed by this time. However I’ve rediscovered that when we get clay in our hands something miraculous happens to our equilibrium and a sense of normalcy returns.

Sometimes it is what the adults actually say that lets me know how happy they are to be back together and making with their hands.

Deborah’s Giant Pear

Often, with children it is how they respond quietly, without words, to being able to be together in a room and to be given a lump of clay to make whatever their heart’s desire.

In my teaching I strive to give students of all ages the tools they need to make what is in their mind and heart. We review techniques they can use to form their projects. We talk about being inspired by other artists. We dig deep and often find the joy that is below the surface.

Hope you’ll enjoy some images of the work that has been created lately.

I also wanted to thank everyone for showing so much support to the makers at our annual Yorkville Holiday Exhibit & Sale. It was indeed a success and we all stayed safe. We’re already thinking about next year’s show…with great anticipation.

Thank you for visiting my website! The shop has been updated and I look forward to hearing your comments.
