Time is Flying

Time is flying! It’s a challenge to keep up! I’m involved with many activities that continue to keep me engaged. I’m also hoping that we all continue to stay healthy in these unpredictable times.

My teaching at the 92NY continues – both with adults and children. I’ve noticed an even deeper engagement exhibited by all students…there is a need to make and create and think with our hands immersed in clay – a little bit of the earth.

My own work continues as well and I have had the good fortune of being able to participate in salt/soda firings upstate with a good friend and colleague, Sara Patterson (@sarap0ts) who built her own gas kiln and has been doing atmospheric firings in the Catskills, which adds another dimension all together of the combination of clay, glaze and fire! Thank you Sara!

My work was accepted into the 31st Annual Strictly Functional Exhibit, juried by Adero Willard and beautifully displayed in the Lancaster Art Museum. I am very pleased and honored to have been included. The exhibit will run through November 4th if you find yourself in Lancaster PA!

Soon I will be at River East, a public school in Harlem for the 14th year. It is a highlight of my week to work with First though 5th Grade clay artists. Their enthusiasm in infectious and I learn so much from them. Their work is precious to them and to me. Clay seems to give the students a very accessible way for expressing themselves, especially for students who struggle in other areas…they excel when it comes to modeling clay. They are eager to learn about the scientific aspects as well, i.e. where clay and glaze comes from and what happens during the firing etc. Looking forward to another fruitful year.
